Our Activities in Niger (AMURT Japan)

In 2004, the children in Niger (West Africa) were threatened by starvation due to the draught and the outbreak of grasshoppers. In 2005, AMURT INTERATIONAL started to distribute food in cooperation with UNICEF in Bouza where government or international aid actors had not yet been active. AMURT JAPAN has been continuing the research supported by AMURT INTERNATIONAL and reached the conclusion that the system that Nigerien children will be able to provided food without any aid from outside. AMURT JAPAN started the food security program including teaching agriculture and farming in 2007.

1. Project title:
The spread of nutritious baby foods for health improvement of mal-nourished infants and health education for infants and the mothers

2. Terget area
3 villages of Tama Commune (Ladama, Tounfofi, Taboye)
(Site of the project : the vegetable field which is already prepared and used)

3. Target group
Mothersf group (for 3 villages)

4. Project Period
August 2007 | June 2008

5.Activities
    1)To train the mothersf group for group organizing and income creation, and to plan annual schedule,
    2) To construct boring hole for watering and settle hand pump (of Niya da Kokari)
    3) To provide seeds of crops to the mothersf group and to support for cultivation by the staff of food security section,
    - cultivation of crops (millet, sorghum and cow peas in the dry season (December to March) in order to supply stock food for the rainy season.
    4) To instruct how to prepare appropriate baby food and nutritious supplement food with the production
    5) Management of storage of the product and distribution to the mothersf of mal-nourished infants
    6) To support the income creation activity (i.e.: selling vegetable and crops, growing livestock, etc.
    Group meeting with the members and the staff of AMURT (once per month)
